Ramayan: Yash breaks silence on playing the role of Ravana in Ranbir Kapoor starrer: ‘It’s going to be very unique’

Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan is one of the most ambitious projects going on in Bollywood at the moment. In this, Ranbir Kapoor plays the role of Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi plays the role of Goddess Sita. In a recent interview, South Indian superstar Yash confirmed the rumors of him playing the role of Ravana in the film. He mentioned that he found the character attractive, which prompted him to sign on to the project. Yash also expressed his excitement at the news and praised Sai Pallavi as a good choice for the film.

Yash has achieved huge success and fame with his film KGF and its sequels. Both the films were successful across the country and fans were happy to know that he will be a part of Ranbir-starrer Ramayan, as previously reported. Although the actor never reacted to the news, he recently confirmed it to The Hollywood Reporter India and expressed his excitement.

When asked how he got the role, the popular star revealed that he was in the US for VFX work on another film when he learned about it. He met Namit Malhotra of VFX companies DNEG and Prime Focus, who told that his team had been working on Ramayana for a long time. As a result, Malhotra asked if he was interested in playing the character of Raavan, and the KGF actor contacted Nitish Tiwari for further discussions.

The excellent actor shared his thoughts on playing the role of Ravana and admitted that he found the role attractive and he would not have chosen any other character to play it. He said, “It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. In Ramayan, if you had asked me, ‘Would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Raavan is the most exciting character to play as an actor, so I love the shades and nuances of a particular character, there is huge scope to present it as an actor and I am very excited. Hopefully, it will be a very unique approach.”

The South Indian star revealed that when he joined the team, Ranbir Kapoor was already selected for the lead role. Casting Sai Pallavi was a collective decision. The team believed it was important to have actors from both the North and the South. The director of Dangal specifically wanted the actress to play this role.

Apart from Yash, no other actor from the team has officially commented about this in the media. Even filmmaker Nitish Tiwari didn’t make any official announcement about it, but Ranbir and Sai’s first look from the film has gone viral, making fans curious to know more about it.
