Ram Gopal Varma faces arrest for defaming Chandrababu Naidu
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma failed to appear before the police, and was not found at his residence when a team went to his house on Monday. He is facing arrest for allegedly defaming Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and others on social media.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal is in legal trouble after he allegedly made derogatory posts against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his family members and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on social media.
The director failed to appear before the police to record his statement in the case on Monday, November 25, leading to the police visiting his residence in Hyderabad. sources told India Today Verma is facing arrest in this case and the police could not find him at his home on Monday.
Some visuals of the Ongole police team from Verma’s residence went viral. Sources also told us that this is the second time that the 62-year-old man failed to appear before the investigating officer in the case.
Maddipadu police registered a case against Verma on November 11 under several sections including sections 336 (4) and 353 (2) of the BNS Act and section 67 of the IT Act. A local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader named Ramalingam has filed a complaint against the filmmaker for allegedly tarnishing the reputation of CM Naidu, Deputy CM Kalyan, IT Minister Nara Lokesh and others during the promotion of Varma’s film Vyuham last year. A complaint was made, after which a case was registered. ,
Ram Gopal Varma denied the allegations
On Sunday, November 24, Varma’s lawyer wrote to the Maddipaddu police informing them about the filmmaker’s unavailability and requested the team to give two weeks’ time to report at the police station. The written letter also mentions the request for ‘digital presence’ with seven days’ prior notice. “My client’s constitutional freedom of right to work should not be unduly constrained, and therefore, my client is seeking a further extension of at least two weeks from today. Also, my client requests your authority to “Appear before your authority through virtual presence at least seven days before this date,” a part of the letter said, adding that my client should be informed of the date.
The same letter also mentions Verma’s denial of all allegations of defaming anyone through his post. “With regard to the receipt of the notice dated 20-11-2024 to my client, I wish to say that, after seeing the FIR, my client has stated that he has no information regarding the allegations made against him by the complainant in the above mentioned FIR No. The letter further reads, “It appears that he has some ulterior motives and therefore, he completely denies each and every allegation.”
RGV, as he is popularly called, is reportedly aware that he faces the threat of arrest. His counsel first informed the court about this when the judge said that the petitioner should file a bail plea. The filmmaker was also served a legal notice on November 13, directing him to appear before the police in the case.
