Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa have often inspired fans with their subtle gestures to ensure ‘equality’ in their relationship as a couple. From asking her to apply vermillion at his wedding to touching her feet on Karva Chauth, every action of the couple made headlines. Recently, Rajkummar Rao shared why he asked his wife Patralekhaa to wear sindoor, which is traditionally applied by the groom on the bride’s forehead, at their wedding.
In a candid interview with journalist Barkha Dutt on Mojo Story, the Stree 2 actor discussed his popular gesture and revealed that he saw Patralekhaa wearing many things like sindoor, mangalsutra and chuda that a bride wears at her wedding.
This made him think about the ‘similarity’ between them as they wore just one ring, which led to his decision. “At that moment, it was very impulsive. I thought, why is she wearing only sindoor, mangalsutra and bangles? She had a lot to do, and I was just wearing a ring. I told her, ‘You should do the same for me. But apply vermilion, it should be even,” he said.
Patralekha was touched by the actor’s thoughtful gesture and she was extremely happy on the occasion. However, he did not anticipate that it would attract so much attention. “She knows me well, so she expected the same from me. But I’m glad it touched so many hearts,” he said.
Apart from exchanging the ritual of applying vermilion on each other’s forehead, Rao revealed that he also asked the pandit at his wedding to explain and follow the meaning behind each mantra he recited. “There was a statement that said she couldn’t be mad at me. I immediately said, ‘This is not happening, this is not acceptable,'” he recalled of a funny incident from that moment.
For those unaware, the couple dated in 2010 and tied the knot in a private ceremony in Chandigarh on November 15, 2024.
On the work front, Rajkummar Rao was last seen in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala video with Trupti and Mallika Sherawat.
