In short

  • Radhika Apte called Sister Midnight a strange and crazy film
  • She praises director Karan Kandhari’s fight for creative freedom
  • The film has received strong reviews in international festivals

Radhika Apte never distanced from unconventional cinema. But with ‘Sister Midnight’, the actor must have found one of his most adventurous projects so far. In a special conversation with India today, Apte opened his experience, which has made waves on the global festival circuit, and is now released in India.

As the film is released in India, Apte is also concerned about the censorship and hopes that the final version of the film will not be maintained without anyone. “I am hoping that the film will be shown unwanted, and as it is in India, she says. “Because otherwise, it is not understood. The film will not mean any meaning,” Radhika told India today.

Madcap, who played a central role in the high-octain feature, told the script anything that he had read earlier. “This is a very strange film. It’s a crazy film. I was very excited when it came to me – I could not keep it down. I felt that if Karan (Kandhari) gets complete creative freedom, it would be a very good film. If not, it would be a disaster.”

Calling it “a risk -worth”, Apte says that Kandhari fought a tough fight to maintain every creative decision. “Karan really fought for everything. And she retained everything,” she shared, saying that the success of the film on the International Festival Circuit has only deepened her faith.

She says, “It has been very traveling, and everywhere we have really found very good reviews. Even the Indian presses coming to Cannes reviewed it well,” she says. “Some people have reached out repeatedly – they are quite excited that it is being released in India. I wish I would have been there to see it right now.”

Sister Midnight is now operating in theaters in India.
