She said she didn’t know she was a ‘despicable mother’.
In a conversation with Rodrigo Canales on the podcast Something Bigger Show, Madhu Chopra opened up about sending Priyanka Chopra to boarding school at the age of seven. Madhu ji remembered one afternoon when she was in the kitchen and Priyanka’s father had come from work.
He explains that the PC’s father asked the little girl to deliver a message to her mother but she told him that she was busy playing with her dolls. When Madhu Chopra heard this, she felt that her daughter was ‘copying’ her because she used to say the same thing to her when she was busy with her work.
Madhu ji mentioned that after hearing Priyanka say this, she felt that she was doing wrong as a parent. He said that sending PC to boarding school is for his betterment.
Madhu ji remembered that when Priyanka went to boarding school, she was not ‘mentally prepared’. She said, “I don’t know, was I a mean mom? I still regret it. I still cry over this. It was very difficult for me too.”
The doctor further told that she used to visit Priyanka every Saturday. She said, “It was being disruptive to her because she wasn’t able to adjust to her boarding school. On Saturdays she would wait for my arrival and then on Sundays I would stay with her.” Madhu ji remembered that the teachers used to ask her not to come.
He further added, “So it is a regrettable decision, but Priyanka turned out to be fine. She stood on her feet.”
