Priya Bhavani Shankar opens up about the failure of ‘Indian 2’.

Priya Bhavani Shankar said that she was harassed and trolled after director Shankar and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’ received negative reviews. A section of people blamed her for the film’s failure. In an interview GalattoPriya spoke about how hurt she was, but said she had no regrets about doing the film. The actor further added that the response to the film could have gone either way, and it was not fair to blame one person for it.

She said, “There was a process between signing ‘Indian 2’ and its release. I got a lot of offers since I signed the film. It was the first big film of my career. Of course, ‘Kadaikutty Singam’ was a big hit. I didn’t know cinema then. I am glad director Pandiraj offered me this. Unfortunately, people offer you films only when you are part of big films. They consider you a heroine. You need a duet with the hero. It is there and I am not complaining. It decides the market and everything around it.”

Priya further added, “Nobody would want to work on a film that they know won’t be successful (among the audiences). Every technician works hard with the intention of making the film a success. When a film fails, it is a huge disappointment for everyone. No matter how big a star you are, it is a huge disappointment. If they offer ‘Indian 2’ now, I will still do it even if I know the outcome. After its release, I know how people will harass you. Honestly, they started threatening me. I am not delusional. It is painful.”

The ‘Demonte Colony 2’ actor said, “If you ask me to go back in time, I will still do this film. Tell me one female lead in the industry who would refuse a Shankar-Kamal Haasan film with such a big screen? That’s my parameters. I have no regrets. I will take it up for all the reasons I took it up the first time. The result may not always be what you expect. I can only apologise to the audience if I am not able to satisfy them.”

Priya also said that the outcome of a film does not depend on one person. “It is not just about this film. If you take Rajinikanth and Vijay, it is not like a film works only because of them. In that case, all their films should have been successful. There are so many factors involved. It is team work. Unfortunately, if a film does not appeal to the audience, we may feel sad and disappointed. Let’s gear up and try to do better,” she remarked.

When asked if she views success and failure in the same light, she said, “When ‘Meyaadha Mann’ became successful, it didn’t go to my head. ‘Kadaikutty Singam’, ‘Monster’, ‘Dhutha’ and ‘Thiruchitrambalam’ – when these films became successful, I didn’t think it was because of me. Nobody told me the films became successful because of me. But, when things go downhill, I wonder why it happened. I got paid well. Maybe I’m not perfect, and I’m not 100 percent. I learn every day and that’s what I can do. That’s why success didn’t come to me. I know it’s not just mine. But, when you are blamed for things that don’t work, it’s sad.”

Priya Bhavani Shankar is now awaiting the release of ‘Demonte Colony 2’, which will hit theatres on August 15.
