In a recent interview, Prince William talked about a very difficult year in his family’s life – 2024, during which both his father, King Charles, and his wife, Kate Middleton, battled cancer. He talked about the challenges of juggling so many royal duties and making sure things stay on track.

The Prince of Wales revealed what a terrible year this has been for him in an emotional interview after a visit to Cape Town, South Africa. He acknowledged the mental anguish he and his family have gone through, but said how proud he is of the way Kate and her father have battled cancer.

William said this year has been particularly damaging to his emotional health, “It’s been terrible. It’s probably been the hardest year of my life.”

The Prince of Wales added, “I’m very proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the job he’s done. But from a personal family standpoint, it’s been, yes, it’s been brutal.”

As far as Kate’s recovery after completing chemotherapy, William thinks she is recovering well. She further talked about her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and how they are doing.

He mentioned how Charlotte was quite upset and, in fact, cried when his beard grew for the first time during the summer, which led to him having to cut his beard. However, he somehow managed to convince Princess Charlotte that “it would be okay” and eventually kept the beard.

Referring to the Earthshot award, William said that the emotional rendition of The Lion King’s Circle of Life, played during his visit to Cape Town, gave him goosebumps. He stressed the need to ensure that now, as the awards are given, the winners have visibility of their work as well as lead action on various environmental problems.

On the fifth anniversary of Earthshot, the Prince of Wales recognized with renewed vigor the challenges of establishing a global environmental prize. He paid his respects to the finalists and described them as unique personalities who do amazing work to tackle the environmental crisis.

While in South Africa, he saw how one of last year’s finalists, Abalobi, is working to promote sustainable fishing practices. Prince William was confident that more companies would join forces to support such efforts and contribute to profound changes in the ecosystem.
