In a symbolic gesture of cultural and spiritual relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday mixed the holy water of the Ganges, which was brought from The Pragraj Mahakumba, brought to the Ganga Talao (Grand Basin) in Port Luis of Mauritius.
The Act indicates strengthening relations between India and Mauritius as well as sharing the rich spiritual heritage of India with the world. The Pragraj Mahakumba, which recently concluded, was a grand festival of unity and devotion, in which millions of devotees gathered to take a holy dip in the Ganges.
A sacred lake Ganga Talao in Mauritius is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. By combining Gangjal in the lake, PM Modi strengthened cultural and spiritual bonds between India and Mauritius.
The Ganges Talao is also known as Grand Basin in Port Louis. The Prime Minister paid obedience, offered prayers and also performed aarti in Ganga Talao.
The Ganges Talao is a sacred lake for the Hindus of Mauritius, in a report CNN noted.
According to CNN, in 1887, a priest claimed to see the water of Ganga Talao flowing from the Ganges in a dream. The word of this revelation spread, replaced the Ganges Talao and connected it directly to the powerful Ganges.
CNN stated that the Ganges Talao is a “cultural touchstone” for Indian migrants of Mauritius and has a link to South Asian roots.
Earlier on Tuesday, in a gesture of cultural exchange and friendship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Mauritius President Dharamber Gokhul with holy Sangam water from Mahakumbe, packed in a very beautiful brass and copper vessel.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the highest National Award for Grand Commander Mauritius of Order of the Star and Ki Indian Office.
Thousands of people gathered at the venue, reducing heavy rains to accept the award on National Day to his leader.
PM Modi, with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgulam, jointly inaugurated the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation. PM Modi said that the institute will serve as a hub for learning and research.
