Gloria Romero, who was dear as the queen of Philippine cinema, died peacefully on Saturday, 25 January at the age of 91.
Gutirez shared, “My dear mother, Gloria Galla Gutirez aka Gloria Romero is very sad to announce the death of Romero, who joined peacefully with our producer today.” He thanked the public’s support, prayers and condolences, “He will definitely be remembered a lot.”
Born on January 16, 1933, Denver, January in Colorado, Gloria Borrago Galla, Romero made her acting debut at the age of 16 during the Golden Age of Philippine Cinema. Her first lead role was in the film Kofradia, and she quickly became a domestic name.
Romero starred Pilya, Despachdora and Dalagung Ilokana in a series of iconic films. Her performance in these roles earned her the prestigious Famous Best Actress Award.
Over the years, he continued to capture the audience with a standout performance in films such as Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit, where he acted with Nora Aunor, avoiding Yaman, Magnifo and Rainbow Sunset.
In addition to his successful film career, Romero made a significant impact on television. He portrayed memorable characters in a hit show like Palibhasa Lalak, where he played the role of Minerva Chavez, and Femilia Zaragoza, where he was seen as Donna Ampro.
His final television role Daig Kayo NG Lola was in the form of Lola Gorang. During her career, Romero appeared in over 250 films and television shows, which strengthens her place as the first woman of Philippine Cinema.
Gloria Romero was married to actor Juancho Gutirez, although the couple participated in a manner after 12 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, including Maritase Gutrez, who shared her mother’s legacy with fans around the world.
