Bhavish Aggarwal said that the company will now move away from Google Maps and use its in-house navigation system Ola Maps.

Ola has taken a big step by completely switching off Google Maps and Microsoft Azure. Instead, they are now using their own in-house developed Ola Maps. This change is saving the company a massive Rs 100 crore every year. Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced on Twitter that the company used to spend Rs 100 crore annually on Google Maps. This month, they have reduced that cost to zero by switching to Ola Maps. This move away from Google Maps comes after their recent exit from Microsoft Azure, indicating Ola’s desire to build and use their own technology.

He tweeted, “After moving out of Azure last month, we are now completely off Google Maps. We used to spend Rs 100 crore annually, but we have reduced it to 0 this month by moving completely to our in-house Ola Maps! Check your Ola app and update if needed. Also, Ola Maps API is available on @Krutrim cloud! Many more features coming soon – Street View, NERFs, indoor images, 3D maps, drone maps and more!”

Aggarwal also revealed that Ola Maps will soon include several new features. These include street view, indoor images, 3D maps, and even drone maps. The Ola Maps API is already available on the Krutrim cloud, which means developers can start using it in their apps. This will give users better and more detailed maps, improving their overall experience.

For those curious about how Ola built its maps, Aggarwal said they will publish a detailed blog post this weekend. This blog will explain which parts of Ola Maps were built in-house and which parts came from open-source resources. This is a chance for tech enthusiasts to learn more about the technology behind Ola Maps.

Ola’s switch from Google Maps and Azure to its own Ola Maps is a significant step. By developing its own technology, Ola is not only saving a lot of money but also showing its strength in innovation. The new features in Ola Maps and the availability of its API on the Crewtrim cloud are exciting developments. Users can expect a better and more seamless experience with Ola’s services in the future.

Overall, this move reflects Ola’s commitment to using homegrown technology to improve their services and reduce costs. As they introduce more features and share more details, Ola Maps is set to become an important part of their tech offerings.
