Nora Fatehi’s song Sarke Chunar controversy: Cine worker body demands action from I&B, censor

The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has now formally written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, expressing strong objection to the track and demanding immediate action. The organization has alleged that the song promotes obscenity and double meaning content, calling it unsuitable for public consumption and harmful to young audiences.

AICWA wrote a letter to CBFC
In its letter, AICWA described the issue as a matter of “serious public concern”, claiming that the lyrics and visuals of the song have evoked widespread reaction across the country. It said that such content does not conform to the standards of decency expected in Indian cinema.
The song features Nora Fatehi and appears in the Kannada film KD: DevilIt is a high-profile project starring Dhruv Sarja, Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, V Ravichandran, Ramesh Aravind, Reeshma Nanaiya and Jisshu Sengupta.
Directed by Prem, the film is backed by KVN Productions, which also produced Vijay Jan Nayganand fame Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Adults.
Objecting to the song, AICWA called it a “dangerous trend”, noting that some songs are increasingly being designed to stir controversy and generate publicity. The association argued in its statement that such tactics risk damaging the credibility of the industry.
AICWA has urged the CBFC and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take strict and immediate action. Its main demands also include banning it Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke And it has been removed from all platforms.

The association has demanded a re-evaluation of the film as well as an investigation of the producers to determine whether the controversy was deliberately created as a publicity strategy.
As the debate continues to rage, AICWA has stressed the need for greater accountability, stating that content endorsed by popular actors can significantly influence audiences and shape cultural norms.
Complaint filed against makers
Meanwhile, a complaint against the song has also been filed by a lawyer with Mumbai’s Mira Road Police.
Lawyer Jahanara Khan has filed a formal complaint regarding the song. Chunar Sarke Teri SarkeIt is alleged that despite having objectionable content, it has been widely circulated on digital and electronic platforms.
According to the complaint, the lyrics and visuals of the song are “highly obscene and sexually suggestive”, with provocative dance sequences that allegedly promote obscenity and undermine public decency. It further claims that such content can have harmful effects on minors.
The petition said the overall presentation – including visuals, gestures, songs and expressions – is derogatory and offensive, and violates the dignity and modesty of women. It has been argued that the content attracts provisions under Section 79 of the Indian Code of Justice, 2023, as it allegedly insults and insults the modesty of women.
The complaint also argues that the song portrays women in an indecent and objectified manner, reducing them to mere objects of visual gratification, raising serious concerns over its social impact.
With the matter now formally reaching the CBFC, all eyes are on whether the regulatory authority will step in as the controversy surrounding the song continues to grow.
Meanwhile, following the intense reaction, the makers have removed both the Hindi and Kannada versions of the song from YouTube.
