Nora Fatehi on Sarke Chunar: I knew immediately the Hindi version had problems
Nora Fatehi said that she was unaware of Sarke Chunar, the Hindi version of the controversial Sarse Ninna song from the Kannada film KD – The Devil. She said that she did not understand Kannada, but as soon as she heard the Hindi version, she told the director that the song would invite a reaction. Following the outcry, the makers removed the Hindi version from YouTube.
‘I would hate for anyone to think I support this’
Responding to this controversy, Nora shared a video message on Wednesday. In the caption, he has distanced himself from the controversial version of the song.
“I would hate if anyone thought I supported this. Thanks for the feedback, due to this pressure the filmmakers have fortunately taken it down,” she wrote, also urging fans to stop circulating the track online.
She further added, “I would request everyone to stop sharing this song because you are giving it a platform unnecessarily.”

Also, amid the controversy, the actor also made personal attacks on her. She added, “On a side note, I see some of you are trying to use this as an opportunity to attack my character. That’s unfortunate.”
‘I shot the song in Kannada three years ago’
In a video shared on Instagram, Nora revealed that she filmed this song in Kannada three years ago and she agreed to be a part of it because it starred Sanjay Dutt and was part of a major project.
“I shot this song three years ago in Kannada language. I said yes because it was part of a big film. It was with a big icon Sanjay Dutt – who would refuse to work with him?” He said.
She said that she was dependent on filmmakers for translations at that time. “When they were translating the songs to me, nothing seemed inappropriate or obscene, I don’t understand Kannada, so I was trusting what they told me.”
‘No approval, no permission’
The actress strongly distanced herself from the Hindi version and claimed that she was neither informed nor consulted.
He said, “Whatever they have just done – making a Hindi version and dubbing the voice with songs that are very inappropriate – I had no knowledge about it. They did not take any approval or permission from me.”
Nora also expressed concern over how the song was presented visually. She alleged that the makers released a lyrical video using “obnoxious photographs” without her consent and even created an AI-generated image of her and Dutt.
“If anyone knows me, they know I have to approve all of my photos, they posted this without my approval,” she said. She said she was “already feeling irritated” after seeing the content at the launch event.
‘I knew there would be a reaction’
Recalling the moment when she saw the Hindi version, Nora said she immediately expressed concern.
She said, “When they played the Hindi version, I knew it was over. I knew there would be problems between us because at least I understand Hindi. I told the director, this won’t be okay, there will be a lot of reaction to this.”
She further claimed that she has distanced herself from the project and decided not to promote it. “My image and reputation are at stake,” he said.
Nora also used the opportunity to say that she simply called it unfair criticism leveled at the artistes. Despite the controversy, Nora admitted that corrective action was taken due to public pressure.
Feedback and industry reactions
The controversy started when the makers released the song in multiple languages including Hindi Sarke Chunar. While the Kannada version did not initially receive the same level of scrutiny, the Hindi version was criticized for its suggestive lyrics and scenes.
Several celebrities and organizations including Armaan Malik, All India Cine Workers Association and National Human Rights Commission condemned the song. Lyricist Raqib Alam also said that he warned about possible censorship issues.
