Nick Jonas recently melted people’s hearts by revealing that his new song Princess was inspired by his daughter Malti Marie. The singer dedicated the emotional track to him during a live performance at his Los Angeles show, and shared that fatherhood played an important role in shaping the song.

During a recent interview PeopleThe singer opened up about the inspiration behind the track and gave a glimpse into his life as a father. Speaking about its genesis during a studio session with Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman and JP Saxe, Nicks said, “My daughter loves princesses and loves playing princess.”

He further reflected on what went into creating the track, saying, “The day we wrote that song, I came over – me, JP Saxe and Gitti were writing a different song. And then basically I went to the bathroom, came back and was like, ‘Wait, can we just try something and just take a swing and see?'”

The singer admitted that he was unsure whether the idea would resonate at first. She said, “I didn’t know if it was something they would connect with, but I said, ‘I have this title, Princesses,’ and they both stood up straight and said, ‘Yeah, let’s do that.'”

Nick explained that the song was written from his perspective as a parent. He added, “The verses are just speaking about how I see her and how she sees the world. And the chorus is her wish that I could just play princesses and be stuck in that moment with her forever, if possible.”

On the work front, Nick is currently working on multiple film projects highly anticipated Jumanji.
