The Scream film franchise is expanding with a seventh installment of the films being released in 2026. The makers of the films have set the film release date as February 27, 2026.
According to reports, Neve Campbell will return to the franchise by reprising her role as Sidney Prescott. The actress’ return was confirmed following her alleged pay dispute with Kevin Williamson, the film series’ producer and director of the upcoming film.
As far as date slots are concerned, the film is perfectly placed and there are no other major titles clashing in the same weekend. Next weekend, The Cat in the Hat and Pixar’s Hopper are coming up, which are expected to attract huge audiences.
Before setting the date, the cast and crew of the film had to go through some offscreen issues, including Melissa Barrera being fired from the franchise due to her comments on the Israel-Hamas war, which added fuel to the fire.
Jenna Ortega was cast for the upcoming film but ultimately had to drop out due to her date commitments on Wednesday and the director was also replaced for some unknown reasons.

In addition to Campbell, Grey’s Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey is also rumored to return as Det. Mark Kincaid. Meanwhile, talking about his return to the Scream films, Campbell told People Magazine, “Those movies have been a huge part of my life and it means a lot to me, and I’m afraid to miss the last movie. It was sad not to be able to be a part of it.”
She added, “I’m really grateful that they came back to me in a respectful way. I think it means a lot to women and society. I’m able to step into Sydney’s shoes again and tell her story.” Grateful to be.”
Additionally, Courteney Cox is also in talks to return to the hit franchise as her character Gale Weathers.
As for the previous Scream films, the films engaged audiences well with the horror drama, leading to good box office performance. The plot and cast details for Scream 7 are currently under wraps, and will be released soon.
