Online scams are increasing worldwide. Cyber criminals are working on new plans to cheat people and get them out of money. From calling unheard individuals to send malicious links, tricks are diverse. Now scammers are also targeting Netflix users through a highly misleading fishing email campaign.

The scam has been informed by the mirror. According to the report, in this special scam, scams are sending fishing messages through email. The email further asks recipients to update their billing information through the attached link. However, if someone clicks on the link, scammers manage login credentials, financial data and even stealing identity theft.

How scam works

According to the report, this Netflix scam begins with an email that usually bears the subject line, “Let’s deal with your payment details.” This makes this scam more dangerous, with this poorly executed fishing efforts, often with spelling errors and suspected looking designs, the scam email looks well and appear authentic. Even it introduces the official branding, colors and fonts of Netflix, which makes it highly assured.

On opening the email, the recipients are congratulated with a message, stating that their Netflix account is on hold due to the billing issue. The email further urges them to update their payment details to avoid service dissolution. Allegedly, this message also includes a red banner that prominently displays the call-to-action button with the “update account”, which makes it similar to the original Netflix page.

However, if users click on this button, the fraud website mimics the sign-in page of Netflix and motivates users to enter their login credentials, home addresses and credit card details. If users enter all this sensitive information, they serve it directly to a plaater for cyber criminal. These scammers use this information to start unauthorized transactions, steal money, or even access to other linked accounts.

Always check the email and find discrepancies in the sender’s email address and a little change on the website URL.

In addition, note that Netflix never asks sensitive information such as password, credit card details, or bank account number via email or text message. Additionally, the official Netflix communication comes only from the domain “@netflix.com”.

If you receive an email that asks for sensitive information, then carefully inspect the website link before entering any login details. If it does not start “it is a scam.

If you feel that the email may be valid, you can start paying by going to the Netflix website by typing the address manually instead of clicking on any link in the email.

Meanwhile, if you accidentally record your information on a fraud site, immediately change your Netflix password and track the transactions related to your bank account.
