The street food scene in Mumbai is incomplete without Vada Pav. This beloved Maharashtrian snack is a desi spin on the sandwich. Eating fried, soft pav filled with delicious vada and garnished with spicy-sour chutney is a food lover’s dream. However, food fusion trends have found their way into this popular cuisine as well. Recently, a social media user shared a shocking picture of “Reverse Vada Pav” on X (formerly Twitter). It featured a fried potato vada peeking out from a hollow brioche bun, with an array of chutneys smeared around the edges. This is not the first time that vada pav has got a singular culinary makeover. Earlier, the internet was in a stir after a picture of Croissant Vada Pav went viral. In the picture, viewers were shown a screengrab of a food delivery app. “Croissant Vada Pav – 2 pcs” Read text below the snap. This unique dish consisted of two croissants cut from the middle. Mashed potatoes with spicy peanut powder were stuffed inside the bonda croissant. Pav buns were not used. Mint chutney, a slice of lemon, onion rings and two green chillies sealed the meal.
