Mufasa The Lion King India Day 19 Box Office: The prequel starring Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu earned Rs 90 lakh on its third Tuesday.

Produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Mufasa: The Lion King has been playing in theaters for over three weeks. The animated musical drama, directed by Barry Jenkins, has emerged as the second highest-grossing Hollywood film of 2024. Apart from its business in North America, Mufasa’s growth is also attributed to the Indian box office.

Mufasa: The Lion King has earned Rs 106 crore in the first two weeks in India. Mufasa has so far received Rs 9.4 crore in the third week. On day 19, the Barry Jenkins director earned Rs 90 lakh, taking its total to Rs 115.4 crore in the Indian markets.

Director Barry Jenkins has played a huge role in its success in our country by teaming up with Indian superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu for the Hindi and Telugu versions respectively. The Disney prequel is a big brand in India and the addition of SRK and Mahesh Babu as voice artistes gives fans a chance to see the story of Mufasa with an Indian touch.

Mufasa, which serves as a prequel to The Lion King (2019), has emerged as one of the highest-grossing Hollywood films in India. Avatar: The Way of Water tops the list with a gross of Rs 467 crore. The 2024 Disney musical drama is at 10th position with an estimated gross collection of Rs 138.25 crore. It has replaced Furious 7 which had earned its lifetime gross of Rs 138 crore.

Mufasa is now aiming to surpass Avatar (2009) whose total earning is Rs 149 crore. There is little chance that Aaron Pierre-Starr will surpass Oppenheimer. The 2023 film starring Cillian Murphy grossed Rs 157.5 crore.
