Mouni Roy: It was difficult to leave screen space for long periods of time for strong roles
Actress Mouni Roy recently spoke to India Today.in about her career, moving from television to films and other topics. She was last seen in Disney Plus Hotstar’s series ‘Showtime’.

TV star and actress Mouni Roy, who was recently seen in Karan Johar’s ‘Showtime’ and has completed shooting for her upcoming feature film ‘The Virgin Tree’, made her theatrical debut in 2016 with ‘Gold’ opposite Akshay Kumar. Mouni, at the time, was a popular television actress and one of the highest-paid female actors at the time. At the peak of her television career, Mouni decided to move on from television and try her luck in films.
When asked if she was comfortable leaving a show that she had been working on for years, just to get into feature films and become successful, Mouni told IndiaToday.in, “Of course it’s not easy to leave a successful show and start all over again. Television has given me so much, I am just very grateful to that medium. Whatever I am today is because of TV. But, at the end of the day, I am an actor, and it was a conscious decision to move from one platform to another so that I could improve and evolve my skill set.”
“I have been a part of a show that revolved completely around me, but as far as OTT and films are concerned, I choose impactful parts and roles regardless of the screen time. It was very difficult to leave screen space for long periods of time for impactful, strong roles, but still, I am someone who forgets and learns things very quickly.”
Mouni added, “My family and friends always tell me that a good quality I have is that I adapt and innovate very quickly. I don’t take my work for granted even for a day. The love and respect I get is something I cherish and hold very close to me. Also, another thing that keeps me really grounded is that I have never forgotten the girl from Cooch Behar. I want to take real life as the best raw material because I have that hunger. I am ready to forget everything every day and wake up as a new artiste,” the actor signed off.
