Motorola is back with a new flip phone — the Moto Razr 50 Ultra — and I am loving it. With solid hardware and compact nature, the foldable phone is a boon. Priced at Rs 99,999, it is more expensive than the previous version. Yes, there is a price hike of Rs 15,000, but it is pretty much justified due to the major upgrades in most areas. And what are these and how is the smartphone in general? Here is my quick review after using the device for a few days.

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra Quick Review

The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra offers a blend of nostalgia and modern functionality in a compact package. The company has made improvements in several areas to provide a better experience to users who admire flip phones. The cover screen is now bigger and better. The quality of both the inner and outer displays is top notch, with vibrant colors and sharp details that make watching videos or browsing photos a delight. There is no gap between the screens when folded and Motorola has managed to keep the screen folds to a minimum, so the viewing experience is seamless without distracting lines.

In an era when smartphones are getting ever bigger, the Razr 50 Ultra’s compact size is a breath of fresh air. It’s extremely easy to slip into your pocket or bag, making it perfect for those who are always on the go. This compactness doesn’t come at the cost of usability; the device feels solid and fits comfortably in the hand, plus it has a vegan leather finish that offers good grip.

The Razr 50 Ultra’s external display can handle most of your daily tasks without opening the phone. Whether you’re checking notifications, taking a quick photo, using the Maps or Music app, or replying to messages, the external screen is ready for your task. The cover screen now supports 1Hz-165Hz refresh rate, which automatically adjusts based on the content to save battery life.

Overall, the display quality is excellent. Same is the case with the main screen, which measures 6.9 inches when the device is opened. The hinge of the Moto Razr 50 Ultra is sturdy, allowing for easy opening and closing. You can also use it in tent mode, which is great for hands-free video calls or media consumption. However, one small drawback is that it cannot stay open at a 130-degree angle; it locks firmly at 90 degrees. While this isn’t a major issue, it’s something you should keep in mind if you like to use your phone at different angles.

The phone has a single SIM slot, which could be a drawback for those who rely on dual SIM functionality. Fortunately, there is an eSIM option available, which offers some flexibility. However, if you are used to using two physical SIM cards simultaneously, this could be a bit of a compromise.

Under the hood, there is Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra has received a major upgrade in terms of camera and the latest version now also features a telephoto camera sensor. The device features a 50-megapixel f/1.7 main camera and a 50-megapixel f/2.0 telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom. It also features a slightly larger 4,000mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging. Unlike some other big tech brands, Motorola ships a 68W fast charger with the smartphone and also includes a pair of wireless earphones tuned by Bose in the box. Since we are still testing the device, we won’t be able to comment much on the performance part.

Overall, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra looks promising. It strikes a good balance between style and functionality, making it a worthy consideration for anyone in the market for a foldable phone. With the launch discount offer, one will be able to buy this Motorola flip phone at an effective price of Rs 89,999. While these are my initial opinions about the device, those who want more details about the real-world performance should wait for a few more days as our detailed review of the new Motorola flip phone will come out soon.
