Introduction

Motorola currently has quite a wide lineup available with several device families. If you’re not looking for something more flashy like a foldable, chances are one of the Edge devices will be a good fit for you. The Edge 70 Pro is what we’d consider an upper-midrange offering, although it’s not far off the best hardware Motorola currently has, so you could even call it a flagship of sorts.

Barring semantics, the Edge 70 Pro has almost all the bases well covered. Unless you’re specifically looking at the Indian version, that is. But more on that in a bit. The global version, which we have for review today, kicks things off with a premium design equipped with Pantone colors. It has become significantly thinner than its predecessor, the Edge 60 Pro, and the display curvature has been reduced significantly. That said, the front glass is still quite curved, which isn’t exactly the style of the day, but we appreciate it for the nice hand feel.

  • various: Fingerprint reader (under the display, optical); stereo speakers (with Dolby Atmos); Smart Connect support.

This year the display has gotten a little bigger and a lot brighter, at least as far as the official specifications go. The aspect ratio is also slightly different, so there are a few things to check in the display department. However, you still get the basic LTPS for the 144Hz refresh rate.

Despite the Edge 70 Pro being thinner and lighter than its predecessor, the battery has grown slightly this year. Now it has increased from 6,000 mAh to 6500 mAh. This year’s model gets a notable chipset upgrade, and last year’s 10MP regular telephoto has been swapped out for a 50MP periscope 3.5x unit, which should be better in every way. So overall, a good step.

There are also some other small upgrades here and there, such as in the connectivity department, but we’ll get to those in due course.

However, before that, we should pay attention to the regional model status and specifically the Indian Edge 70 Pro. Indian buyers beware – that version lacks a 50MP telephoto camera altogether. Motorola just removed it – no replacement, nothing. It also lacks the global variant’s 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging capabilities. The global version also has more storage options and more color options. We believe they needed the device to capture a different price segment in India.

unbox

The Motorola Edge 70 Pro comes in a pretty standard-looking white-ish, two-piece cardboard box. There appears to be no plastic anywhere in the packaging, it’s recyclable and all the printing is also soy ink – top eco mark. Despite the lack of plastic, there is still a cradle for the phone, which will keep it safe during transit. There’s nothing particularly flashy on the exterior of the box, except perhaps the FIFA World Cup 2026 branding – Motorola is an official partner.

The usual nice touches are present here – the box is scented, and the fragrant scent lingers on the phone even during the first day.

You don’t really get much inside the box. In compliance with EU regulations, our review unit lacks a charger. Motorola simply includes a QR code that directs you to its webshop, where you can pick one up if you want to buy first-party. There is a very nice USB Type-C to Type-C cable in the box. It is E-marked and hence rated for 5A current.

Motorola threw a nice little bonus in the box in the form of a transparent, hard, snap-on case. It also adds MagSafe support, which is a nice little extra.
