The National Capital Influenza has a sharp increase in cases, including the H1N1 virus, known as swine flu. According to a report by Localcircles, viral diseases have increased in the Delhi-NCR region as 54% of the families mentioned that one or more members were experiencing symptoms.

The report has shown data since February 2025, as many people are experiencing headaches, cough, fatigue, light temperatures and other respiratory issues for an increased recovery period for a 10-day recovery period, unlike normal 5-7 days.

The survey received more than 13,000 reactions from residents of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad, with 63% of respondents and 37% women of respondents.

In addition, there is a sudden increase in swine flu cases, medical features have been reduced to heavier, as the symptoms are closely similar to Kovid -19.

More than 20,000 persons have been infected with virus and have died at least 347 in India by December 2024. This information is taken from data reports that have been sent by the States and Center areas by the Central Monitoring Unit, Integrated Disease Monitoring Program (IDSP) by the Integrated Disease Monitoring Program (IDSP) at the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

“We are viewing many patients for more than 2 weeks with upper respiratory symptoms in OPD such as nose, sore throat, dry cough, fever for more than 2 weeks and are not responding to the general treatment for the flu these days these days,” Dr.

Dr. Mittal said that some cases are present like hyperractive airways, which are treated as an asthma with bronchodilars, inhalers and sometimes, oral steroids.
According to the World Health Organization, about one billion cases of seasonal flu are annually. About 3-5 million cases of these are serious and have results in 2,90,000 – 6,50,000 deaths.

Dr. Sunita Nagpal, General Physician, Salubritus Medcontra, highlight the methods that can treat a cold and flu symptoms. “Antibiotic drugs are required to only eliminate bacteria for bacteria infections and help prevent complications. Antiviral drugs can be used in some viral infections, but in most cases, symptomatic treatment is sufficient because the body naturally fights infection,” Dr. Nagpal said.

Antibiotics should not be used in viral infections, as they are ineffective against the virus and unnecessary use can cause antibiotic resistance, the specialist warned.

Treatment for cold

Whether the infection is viral or bacteria, symptomatic relief plays an important role in recovery. The following measures can help manage symptoms:

  • For a cold: Antihistamine can help reduce congestion, and steam breathing can remove nasal blockage.
  • For sore throat: Thunder with hot salt water provides relief.
  • For fever: Antipiratic drugs like paracetamol can help control fever.
  • Hydration: It is necessary to drink plenty of fluids in both viral and bacterial infections to prevent dehydration.
  • Rest: Taking adequate rest allows the body to recover rapidly.

It is important to practice good hygiene, such as avoiding the face touching, sneezing or covers the mouth when coughing, and washing hands regularly to prevent the spread of infection.

Vaccination may help prevent some viral infections. For example, flu vaccine is available to protect against seasonal influenza.
