Michael Jackson biopic is doing quite well in India. The film starring Jafar Jackson collected Rs. Earned Rs 3.60 crore on the first Tuesday, which is 20 percent more than Monday. Due to this its 5 day revenue is Rs. Earning of Rs 26.60 crore in India including paid previews.
This musical biographical drama opened its first week at around Rs. Earning of 30-32 crores. This would be a solid opening week for a musical film. Interestingly, Michael has already become India’s biggest musical film, surpassing Taylor Swift: The Era’s Tour and Bohemian Rhapsody.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael is on track to emerge as a clean hit venture in India, making the project the third Hollywood hit this year after Hail Mary and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy. It will overtake Lee Cronin’s The Mummy tomorrow and easily cross Rs. 50 crore gross figure in India.
The film performed best in South India and Mumbai, where Michael Jackson was most popular. Jackson was also a dance icon, and perhaps it is his dancing that was more popular in India than his music, but as it turns out, dance films also traditionally fare in Mumbai and the South, while underperforming in the North.
