Meet Uber’s new CFO, Indian-origin Balaji Krishnamurthy, who studied in Gurgaon and is a brilliant strategist
Uber has appointed Balaji Krishnamurthy as its new CFO. The Indian-origin executive previously served as Uber’s vice president of strategic finance and investor relations.


Uber has named Balaji Krishnamurthy as its new chief financial officer (CFO). He succeeds Prashant Mahendra-Raja, who is stepping down after three years in the role. This change will be effective from February 16, 2026. Krishnamurthy is an Indian-born executive who has been at Uber since 2019.
The announcement, made in conjunction with the company’s fourth-quarter earnings, comes during a period of strong growth for Uber, with fourth-quarter revenue rising to $14.37 billion, up 20 percent from last year.
During Uber’s fourth-quarter earnings call, Krishnamurthy outlined his outlook for the company’s future investments, particularly in autonomous vehicle (AV) technology. He said Uber will invest capital in its AV software partners, work with AV manufacturers by making equity investments or through offtake agreements, and “support AV infrastructure partners.”
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi expressed confidence in Krishnamurthy’s appointment given his deep knowledge of Uber’s business and his close work with the management team. “For those who don’t know Balaji, he is trusted by investors, knows the Uber business inside out and is a brilliant, decisive strategist.” Khosrowshahi said.
Who is Balaji Krishnamurthy?
Krishnamurthy was previously Uber’s vice president of strategic finance and investor relations. Before joining Uber in 2019 as senior manager of investor relations, he worked at Goldman Sachs for more than eight years as vice president of equity research, focusing on hardware and communications technology.
According to his LinkedIn profile, the new Uber CFO completed his MBA from the Institute of Management Development in Gurgaon. He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology and studied at Copenhagen Business School.
How much will Balaji Krishnamurthy earn as Uber CFO?
Krishnamurthy’s financial package as CFO includes an annual base salary of $600,000, a one-time restricted stock unit award of $5 million, and RSU awards of approximately $9.4 million subject to time- and performance-based conditions, as well as an option to purchase $3.1 million of common stock. He will also be eligible for Uber’s executive bonus and severance plans.
Mahendra-Raja, the outgoing CFO, will remain with Uber as senior finance advisor to Khosrowshahi until July 1, 2026, facilitating a leadership transition.
