If you still couldn’t guess it, it’s Nimrat Kaur! The self-made star has had a remarkable journey to success in Bollywood. Born in a Sikh family in Pilani, Rajasthan, she faced adversity as she lost her father, a brave army officer, Major Bhupinder Singh, when she was just 12 or 13 years old. His father met a tragic end when he was kidnapped by a Kashmiri terrorist group. Trip to Kashmir in 1994. Growing up in a military family, Nimrat’s childhood was filled with frequent transfers as her father’s profession required the family to move frequently. However, despite these challenges, Nimrat became a resilient and determined woman and chose her own path to stardom.
After completing her education in New Delhi, the Sky Force actress moved to Mumbai, where her journey in the glamor industry began. Starting out as a print model, she soon moved into the world of theater to hone her acting skills. In the early 2000s, she starred in two music videos, and gained recognition for her performances with renowned playback singers Kumar Sanu and Shreya Ghoshal.
Nimrat made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with Peddlers, directed by Vasan Bala. Produced by Anurag Kashyap, the film also stars Gulshan Devaiah and Nishikant Kamat. However, it was her role in The Lunchbox (2013) opposite the great Irrfan Khan that brought her to fame. The film was critically acclaimed and marked her as a versatile actress.
Her career continued to grow and in 2016, she starred opposite Akshay Kumar in Airlift, a film about the evacuation of Indians from Kuwait during the Iraq–Kuwait War. Nimrat’s portrayal of a woman caught in turmoil brought her more recognition.
Nimrat Kaur continued to explore diverse roles, starring in films such as Dasvi (2022), where she played the wife of Abhishek Bachchan’s character, and Sajini Shinde’s Viral Video (2023). She has also appeared in international projects such as Homeland, Wayward Pines and Foundation and the Indian web series The Test Case and School of Lies.
Despite her professional success, Nimrat’s personal life has often been the subject of media speculation. There were rumors of her relationship with cricketer Ravi Shastri, which both of them denied. Recently, his name came up amid rumors of divorce between Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai, although these claims have been baseless.
Nimrat Kaur’s next big screen film is Sky Force, alongside Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan. The film is set to release in theaters on January 24, 2025, during the Republic Day weekend.
