Ahead of the official opening of its first location in Bengaluru, Anthropic has appointed Irina Ghosh as Managing Director for its India office. Ghosh’s arrival is a big step for the AI ​​startup as it prepares to double its India operations after receiving an overwhelming response to its cloud chatbot and other Vibe coding tools. Irina Ghosh is a well-known tech industry veteran, having previously worked at Microsoft for more than two decades.

Anthropic appoints Irina Ghosh as India MD

Chris Ciuri, international managing director of Anthropic, highlighted the significance of Ghosh’s appointment in a press release. “As we grow our teams and deepen engagement across India’s public and private sectors, Irina will ensure our approach is based on local insights and aligns with our mission,” he said.

Irina Ghosh commented on a LinkedIn post that her role will be crucial when it comes to “working with organizations, developers and startups across India as they leverage AI to transform their operations and create value.”

Why is Anthropic opening an office in India?

Ghosh pointed out that India is a key market for Anthropic, with the country having the second largest user base for cloud. According to the company’s latest economic index, nearly half of cloud.AI usage in India is concentrated in computer and mathematical tasks, underscoring the country’s tech focus and growing appetite for AI-powered solutions.

The company also announced that CEO Dario Amodei and several senior executives will travel to India in February to officially inaugurate the Bengaluru office and participate in the India AI Impact Summit.

Irina Ghosh also indicated that Anthropic’s India operations will allow better localized adoption of AI in the country.

Who is Irina Ghosh?

Ghosh brings a wealth of experience to Anthropic, particularly in the context of the Indian technology sector. He previously served as the MD of Microsoft in India for more than two and a half years. His tenure at the Redmond-based giant spanned more than two decades in various roles, including chief operating officer (COO) of India operations and executive director of Microsoft’s cloud business.

Before joining Microsoft in 2001, Irina Ghosh worked for short stints at HCL and Wipro.

When it comes to education, Ghosh completed his MBA in Business Management from XLRI Jamshedpur. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi.
