Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched a dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Services Transformation Division, indicating how Central AI has become for its long -term development strategy.

The new unit will be headed by TCS executive Amit Kapoor, who currently manages the UK and Ireland business. From September 1, 2025, he will take the new role of the Chief AI and Service Transformation Officer.

Development was shared with employees in internal emails viewed by the trade standard. This restructuring has been detected to cut around 12,000, about 12,000 of its global workforce during this financial year. Who is Amit Kapoor?

Amit Kapoor brings 26 years of experience for his new role in TCS. He studied before joining the company in 1999 at the University of Mumbai between 1997 and 1999. Over the years, he continued to rank to lead the TCS business in the UK and Ireland.

Industry experts have welcomed the move. Research firm Everest Group founder and executive president Peter Bendor-Samuel described the changes as “very encouraging”, especially at a time when the AI ​​is disrupting the global technical service industry.

“To date, TCS has been cautious in its AI approach and strategy and has focused more on its industry-comprehensive model, and has been left behind by more aggressive competitors, such as Accentures and Cognizants. The announcement indicates that more investment and senior management focus is now being given to AI Transformation Challenge,” he said in an email response.

Bendor-Samuel said that TCS is eventually taking a decisive step to avoid being behind in the shift for AI. He said, “The appointment of Amit Kapoor, a senior and respected executive, underlines the seriousness that TCS AI is looking at the challenge,” he said.

Earlier this year, in Q4Fy25, the company had already reorganized its structure by dividing its AI. Two separate businesses focus on cloud unit, one AI and data, and the other on cloud services.
