Development was shared with employees in internal emails viewed by the trade standard. This restructuring has been detected to cut around 12,000, about 12,000 of its global workforce during this financial year. The company said that this step is part of the efforts to become thin and more adaptive in the era of AI-operated trade change.

Who is Amit Kapoor?

Amit Kapoor brings 26 years of experience for his new role in TCS. He studied before joining the company in 1999 at the University of Mumbai between 1997 and 1999. Over the years, he continued to rank to lead the TCS business in the UK and Ireland.

During its tenure, the region became the second largest market of the company, a milestone often responsible for their leadership.

Widely recognized as one of the top officials of TCS, camphor has earned a reputation for enhancing development and building strong customer relationships. In his new position, he will directly report to the Executive Director, Chairman and Chief Operating Officer, Aarti Subramanian at TCS.

TCS’s new AI and data unit

The new unit brings together the current AI initiative of TCS, which includes AI and data units installed in the fourth quarter of FY25, which is in a consolidated unit. According to Subramanian, the goal is to strengthen innovation, simple how customers join the company, and accelerate their digital change trips.

Subramanian wrote in the email, “We will resume our investment in our TCS pace ports worldwide, which is to bring the real -world experiences and AI’s possibilities close to our customers.”

By pooling resources, the unit will integrate the AI teams of TCS and work closely with their service units and industry-centric groups. Its purpose is to score the impact at the customer level, ensuring that business AI sees tangible benefits from adoption.

The internal note stated, “This will include re-incorporating our service proposals, deepening our AI domain solutions, orbiting new partnership ecosystems and rapid innovation in the distribution of AI-managed integrated integrated technology services in operations, engineering and modernization.”

Industry experts have welcomed the move. Research firm Everest Group founder and executive president Peter Bendor-Samuel described the changes as “very encouraging”, especially at a time when the AI is disrupting the global technical service industry.

“To date, TCS has been cautious in its AI approach and strategy and has focused more on its industry-comprehensive model, and has been left behind by more aggressive competitors, such as Accentures and Cognizants. The announcement indicates that more investment and senior management focus is now being given to AI Transformation Challenge,” he said in an email response.

Bendor-Samuel said that TCS is eventually taking a decisive step to avoid being behind in the shift for AI. He said, “The appointment of Amit Kapoor, a senior and respected executive, underlines the seriousness that TCS AI is looking at the challenge,” he said.

Earlier this year, in Q4Fy25, the company had already reorganized its structure by dividing its AI. Two separate businesses focus on cloud unit, one AI and data, and the other on cloud services. The latest step further intensifies that focus, suggests that TCS is ready to compete directly in the AI service location that is fast developed.
