‘Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan’ review: Vijay Antony stars in yet another lousy movie

‘Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan’ Movie Review: Director Vijay Milton’s film, starring Vijay Antony, Dali Dhananjay and Sarathkumar in the lead roles, is a boring film. The film is a wasted opportunity.

Vijay Antony’s ‘Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan’ released in theatres on August 2.

Music director turned actor Vijay Antony’s career graph as an actor has been up and down. Most of his films in recent times have failed to attract audiences to the theatres. Now, he is back with ‘Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan’, which is similar to the actor’s hit film ‘Saleem’. However, it is a film that lacks both coherent story and technical nuances.

The film begins with a cheesy animated sequence that narrates how Salim started hating the rainy season, as the title suggests. Salim and his wife live in exile for many years. However, one day, when they step out his wife is murdered. Salim is part of a secret agency, which includes Sarathkumar and Sathyaraj (you never know what their real job is). It is Sathyaraj who rescues Salim and leaves him on the Andaman Islands to start a new life.

In the Andaman Islands, Salim finds a new friend in Burma (Prithvi Ambar) and a family in his mother (Saranya Ponvannan), who runs an etho shop. Meanwhile, there is Daali (Daali Dhananjay), a dreaded gangster who makes life difficult for many. The film shows the confrontation between Daali and Salim, as well as many so-called ups and downs.

A one-minute animated sequence at the start of the film sets you up for the onslaught for the next two hours. It is executed so poorly that it provokes laughter rather than connecting to the story. On paper, the idea of a man living in exile who sets out to start a new life – reborn with new relationships – sounds promising. His mission remains the same, to maintain brotherhood and do good for others. Even with a predictable story built around this concept, the film could have been interesting. However, Vijay Milton had different ideas.

Watch the trailer here:

He complicates the story with unnecessary sub-plots and poorly written dialogues that remind you of many flops you have seen in your lifetime. You don’t feel the slightest emotion for the characters on screen because they simply don’t stick. The story, with AI-generated backgrounds, jumps from one place to another with absolutely zero purpose.

Again, ‘Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan’ has good versus evil. Many people get injured and killed before Salim and Daali come face to face. But, it just takes one monologue to pull the dangerous gangster Daali to the side of good. Neither the performances nor the story make even the minimum effort to keep you hooked to the film.

After a point of time, you start enjoying the ridiculousness you see on screen. The rhymes used in the dialogues remind you of your school days. For example, ‘Veetala Nai Valathu Pathurken, Kot La Nai Valathu Ippo Dan Pakaren (I have seen people keeping dogs at home, now I see a guy who keeps a dog in his coat.) If this is the standard set by Vijay Milton, you can imagine how worse the situation would have become after a point of time.

If there is a film in recent times that deserves the award for worst editing, ‘Mazhai Pidikkatha Manithan’ will win without any competition. The film is divided chapter-wise. While the idea seems interesting, the execution falters. The chapter titles remind you of the Word Art feature in Microsoft Word. You suddenly hear ‘Asuran’ music in a scene and all the songs are forgettable.

‘Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan’ is yet another bad movie in the filmography of Vijay Antony and Vijay Milton.

1.5 out of 5 stars for ‘Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan’.
