Maya Sabha: The Hall of Illusion, starring Javed Jaaferi, Veena Jamkar, Deepak Damal and Mohammed Samad, has ended its theatrical run on a disappointing note. Directed by Tumbbad co-director Rahi Anil Barve, the psychological suspense film was made at a mere Rs. 60 lakhs in its entire performance at the Indian box office.
It showed some growth in the opening weekend, but could not continue the same momentum, which ultimately affected its show count, which was already very limited. For the record, the film was released on January 30 in very limited shows along with Rani Mukherjee’s police action drama, Mardaani 3. Had the film received better exposure, its box office results might have been slightly better. Nearly 95 percent of its earnings came from the opening week alone. That said, the film did well only after the second weekend.
Since the budget was less than Rs. Reaching the 1 crore mark, Maya Sabha: The Hall of Illusion had a good chance of emerging as a clean hit venture if it remained strong in the long run. However, Rahi Anil Barve’s second film also received similar response as Tumbbad. It will be interesting to see whether Maya Sabha is able to see the popularity of ‘Tumbbad’ among cinema lovers with time or not.
Although the film was praised for its performances, uniqueness and cinematography, the film as a whole failed to impress the audience. Maya Sabha: The Hall of Illusion halted its journey at the box office with a flop verdict. Now all eyes are on Rahi Anil Barve’s next film to be released on the big screen.
