Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for historical relations between Mauritius and today, suggesting that it was not just a partner country, but a family. “Mauritius is not just a partner country. For us, Mauritius is a family.”
He said, “This bond is deep and strong, which lies in history, heritage and human soul … When Mauritius faces a crisis, India is the first to answer. When Mauritius Prosperors, India is the first to celebrate,” he said.

In this context, he outlined the efforts of the government – from the revival of Nalanda University to the export of Makhana or Foxes, which he said, “will soon become part of the snack menu worldwide”.
But this relationship between India and Mauritius, he said, not only look back, but also stare at further.
Calling Mauritius a “Gateway to Global South”, he said during his first visit to the country a decade ago, he announced “Sagar Vision”.
“Sagar means security and development for all in the region. Today, Mauritius is still at the center of this vision. Whether it is investment or infrastructure, commerce or crisis reaction”.
PM Modi has been honored with Mauritius’s highest civilian honor – Order of the Star and Ki Grand Commander of the Indian Ocean. Thanking the people and the island nation for gesture, he said, “I politely accept this decision with great respect. This is not just an honor for me, it is an honor for the historical bond between India and Mauritius”.
