Many celebs spoil Broth: Why Celebrity is not MasterShef
While Celebrity MasterShef provides entertainment, it lacks raw authenticity that made the original MasterShef format so compelling.
Television audiences who have followed MasterShef for years swear by their purity in celebrating food. The popular format is adapted to many countries, winning hearts with its original base – a platform to shine aspiration chefs and home cooks.
However, this time in India, the manufacturers decided to add some additional Tadka (Spice) by bringing popular TV and internet celebrities. The first season of celebrity MasterShef was premiered a week ago, receiving mixed reviews. While the loyal fans of the famous celebrities participating are thrilled to see their favorite in the kitchen, the original format dye-hard fans feel that the essence of the show is diluted.
Originally, MasterShef was designed to provide amateur chefs an opportunity to learn from world class culinary experts, which sets them on a route for success in the food industry.
In India, winners like Pankaj Bhaduria, Ripudaman Handa, Nikita Gandhi, Kirti Bhautika and recently, have made a career as a professional chef.
However, this season is more concentrated on celebrity drama than real cooking. Except for a couple of contestants, most of the culinary art seems to have no real passion and seem to participate purely for the spotlight. In addition, after following the trips of many of these celebrities, their repetitive statement about conflict feels predictable, making some sections of the show skipper.
The two contestants who have especially drawn the Ire of MasterShef’s loyalists are Vapika Kakar and Gaurav Khanna.

Dipika has already demonstrated its culinary skills through her YouTube vlogs, making it no surprise that she excels in most challenges. However, her emotional breakdown – especially when she claims to represent women who are “below” to be in the kitchen – are unrelated. While she calls herself home cook, the reality is that she was invited to the show without any audition or test, unlike MasterShef’s original contestants. He was offered a place and paid beautifully for it. So, tears, Deepika – let us talk about their skills in the kitchen.
Gaurav Khanna, Fresh Off His exit from Anupama, It seems that the dramatic nature of daily soap has been carried forward in the competition. His petty arguments with Nikki Tamboli seem to be teenagers, and their unity about leaving her throne to become an actor seems unnecessary.
Sympathy is the last thing of pride, with more than two decades in the industry and with an established career. Instead, he could win the audience showing the audience that men could also lead into the kitchen with skills and confidence.
In the contestants, Faisal Sheikh aka Fesu and Tejasvi Prakash stand out as the most earnest contestants. While Tejashwi can be a bit enimted, Fesu’s honesty of competition is from the heart. Even when producers repeatedly highlight their humble background, he keeps it subtle, making sure that his journey remains about his culinary development rather than his previous struggles.
On the other hand, Nikki Tamboli, Archana Gautam, and Usha Nadyarni are more treatment of the show like a dramatic reality series than a cooking competition. Their over-the-top actions can work elsewhere, but a mastershef feels out of place in the kitchen.
Rajiv Adatia also brings his signature humor, but plays the underdog card a little bit. Similarly, Abhijeet Sawant and Chandan Prabhakar fail to bring anything fresh on the table.
The contestant who travels from the heart is Kabita Singh, a popular food blogger and Utubar. The actors flourishing on their current fan base, Kabita appears out of place among the celebrity-barring crowd, which is struggling to find her leg.
Fans are also speculating that contestants are getting important routes in the competition. According to sources, they undergo professional training before the challenge of each week – with professional knife – learning new techniques, and refining their understanding of tastes with rented chefs.
Given that many of them initially lacked original kitchen skills, coaching has increased eyebrows by this back scenes. Even within the show, some advantages stand out – for example, in a recent episode, the contestants were given extended access to the pantry, some unheard of traditional mastershef competitions.
Coming to the hosts and judges, Farah Khan plays the right hyp-voan to the contestants encouraging beyond the need of their role. While Farah’s passion for humor and food is entertaining, there are moments when its enthusiasm follows the rights of judges. On the other hand, chefs Ranveer Brar and Vikas Khanna, sometimes hold back criticisms, possibly for celebrities.
Finally, whereas Celebrity MasterShef Provides entertainment, it lacks raw authenticity that made the original MasterShef format so compelling.
If the focus is back into real culinary talent instead of reality-show dramatics, perhaps it will probably echo with both food lovers and long-term fans of the franchise.
