Manjummel Boys director Chidambaram has strongly opposed the idea of remaking the film in another language. During an interview with PTI, the filmmaker said that he is open to a remake but a film like Manjummel Boys should never be adapted into any other language. According to him, cultural ties are lost during such efforts.
Chidambaram said, “It’s a real story about a real cave and people. The cultural connection of the people of Kerala, the people of Tamil Nadu. There are many factors that helped the film run (successfully), but if you remake it are going to make, I don’t know how much it will be translated.”
He further added, “I don’t think ‘Manjummel Boys’ is a film that should be made in any other language.”
Chidambaram also called Manjummel Boys a “pure human story” which had all the elements to become a great film. He said who would not rush to make such a film as it is the first film of its kind.
The filmmaker shared that people connected with his film because it is a “universal story”.
Chidambaram also spoke about his upcoming project and said, “It is a story about human emotions, drama. I am exploring the anatomy of violence.”
Talking about Manjummel Boys, it was a survival thriller based on the real-life tragedy that occurred in the Guna Caves. The film was released this year and emerged as one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films.
The film revolves around a group of friends who go on a holiday to Kodaikanal. However, one of them falls into an 800-foot deep pit and his life is in danger. However, his friends leave no stone unturned to save him.
Manjummel Boys was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 20 crore and grossed over Rs 240 crore worldwide.
Meanwhile, the star cast of the film includes Soubin Shahir, Srinath Bhasi, Deepak Parambol and many others in important roles.
