Director Vivek Agnihotri claimed that his film ‘The Bengal Files’ hurt West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as she fears that it may highlight skeletons from the past. In a special interview with Indiayatoday.in, the filmmaker expressed his dissatisfaction over the way the film’s trailer launch was stopped and was eventually canceled in Kolkata last week.

Agnihotri said that he is presenting the “untold story” in the history of Bengal, which may have disturbed the Trinumool Congress led by Banerjee. Asked why Trinmool was against ‘Bengal files’, the director said, “He (Mamta Banerjee) does not want history because history comes out, when history comes out, many other skeletons will also pop out of the box – and some skeletons probably not his family’s bad skeletons, good skeletons.”

However, Banerjee is widely seen as an independent political career. She was born into a non-political family. His father, Promleshar Banerjee, was a freedom worker, but was not a politician with a dynastic influence. She arose through student politics, joined the Congress party in the 1970s, and later founded the Trinumool Congress (TMC) in 1998.

For Agnihotri, the Chief Minister laid down the power of the state against him during the trailer launch event. He said, “When he canceled the trailer launch, the state misused his power. He armed the police to stop the trailer. But you know what? It is just a trailer –The picture is Abhi Baki. Let’s see what happens when the film is released on 5 September. I pray to God to give them something good. ,

The National Award winning filmmaker denied the criticism of his film to the people of West Bengal. “They understand that by attacking the film, they are denying the rights of millions of Bengalis, whose prestige, glory, heritage and great history are represented in the film.

Agnihotri highlighted that the claims of the film to tell the authorities in West Bengal to tell the “untold story”.

He shared, “I fail to understand what he is hurt, in fact. Are Hindus not citizens of Bengal? I have been told by reliable sources that when the trailer launch was canceled and the police came – those who were actually stopping it, later told me in confidence that this (film) tells me the ‘unique story’ of Hindu genocide.

Agnihotri claimed that the ‘Bengal files’ provide the harassment of Hindus in Bengal in 1946. He said that Kolkata is going on ‘Gundraj (Rule of goons) ‘, not politics.

The film, which has been approved by the censor board, presents the events of the great Calcutta Killing-Direct Action Day and Nokhali riots, which eventually the Bengal was partitioned in West Bengal and Bangladesh.

‘The Bengal Files’ also includes Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Namashi Chakraborty, Simrat Kaur and Darshan Kumar. The film has been slated to hit the screen on 5 September.
