Turmeric milk holds a special place in Indian culture and medicine. Since ancient times, it has been a favorite drink to strengthen immunity, relieve cold and aid digestion. The presence of a compound called curcumin with anti-inflammatory properties makes it a wonderful drink. We are sure many of you make turmeric milk several times throughout the year, especially during winters. Although making turmeric milk is not difficult, many people do not know the correct way to make it. If you’re a fan of turmeric milk, here are some mistakes you should beware of when making it at home.
Turmeric Milk Recipe These 4 mistakes should be avoided while making turmeric milk:
1. Using store-bought turmeric
A common mistake that many of us make while making turmeric milk is using store-bought turmeric. Sure, it serves as a convenient alternative, but remember, it’s also less nutritious than raw turmeric. We all know that anything naturally retains more nutrients in its fresh form. In this case, raw turmeric retains more curcumin – the active compound found in turmeric. So, try to get your hands on raw turmeric to truly reap the benefits of turmeric milk.

2. Excessive consumption of sugar
Do you like to add sugar to your turmeric milk? Well, make sure you don’t overdo it with it. Sugar may make your turmeric milk taste better, but don’t forget that it is also high in calories. If you add too much sugar, your turmeric milk will not be as nutritious. To prevent this, only add as much as is needed. You can also replace it with jaggery to make it a healthier option.
3. Not adding any flavor
While making turmeric milk, we all have our own preferences. Some people like it with just turmeric, while others like to add sugar to their milk. But if you leave out the taste then it will not taste as good. Next time you make it, consider adding spices like elaichi (cardamom), black pepper (kali mirch), or dalchini (cinnamon). These spices help add a distinct flavor to turmeric milk, making it incredibly delicious. Additionally, you can also add a few threads of saffron.

4. Boiling turmeric and milk together
Did you know that boiling turmeric and milk together is not such a good idea? Yes, you heard that right. According to weight loss coach Nidhi Gupta, boiling turmeric with milk can destroy the active ingredient curcumin present in turmeric. Instead, milk should always be boiled in a separate pan first. Then mix turmeric with ghee in another pan and finally add it to boiled milk. This way, the turmeric will be able to retain all its nutrients.
