Vijay Sethupathi’s Maharaja conquers Taiwan, becomes the only Indian film to trend for 6 weeks
Tamil film Maharaja starring Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap has become a global sensation, reaching the top 10 film lists in several countries including Taiwan, where it remained for six consecutive weeks.

Tamil film Maharaja starring Vijay Sethupathi and Anurag Kashyap has lived up to its name. Sethupathi’s 50th film Maharaja was released on streaming giant Netflix in June. While it was released in India on June 14, it was released in other countries around the world including Middle-Eastern, South Asian and East Asian countries within a week.
The Tamil film was being screened in Taiwan from June 18. The film has now reached the list of top 10 non-English films in the country, where it has held the position for six consecutive weeks as of October 27. What’s more – it is the only Indian film in the list to achieve this feat.

Some people in the country praised the film a lot. National Taiwan Sports University professor Hsien Tzu-hsuan Chen noted the film was appreciated by Taiwanese audiences. He said that thanks to strong word-of-mouth it has been able to maintain its position among the top 10 non-English films in Taiwan. He also talked about how much the Taiwanese audience likes Aamir Khan, saying that 3 Idiots has been extremely popular in the country.
Maharaja remains in the top 10 list in India for a record 12 weeksDisappeared from the list only from 14 October. It is also performing exceptionally well in countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Oman and Sri Lanka.
