Madhuri Dixit recently shared that when her husband Dr. Shriram Nene met her for the first time, she did not know that he was one of the biggest stars of Bollywood, as he neither watched Hindi films nor was aware of his popularity.

He was born in London and moved to America when he was 7. He used to come here (India) for holidays when he was younger. When he grew up it was less because there were colleges and everything. Maharashtrians are not so much into films; it’s more about getting an education. He didn’t watch films and he didn’t know Hindi.”

He told that although Dr. Nene did not understand Hindi then, he was fluent in Marathi as he used to speak it to his grandparents. Madhuri said, “He is good in Marathi, but at that time he did not understand Hindi; now he does. He did not watch many films. He said the only film he had seen was Amar Akbar Anthony, so he only knew Amitabh Bachchan.”

Recalling their first meeting, Madhuri shared, “When I met him, he asked me what I did, and I told him I worked in films, and he thought it was cool. He didn’t realize who I was. I found him attractive because I could meet him without having any preconceived notions about me or how I should be. People who watch my films get ideas of what I would be like.
