Who doesn’t want money? And if it’s easy to get, it becomes even more attractive. However, whenever someone offers easy money, it is probably a scam. Over the past few months, scammers have been taking advantage of people’s desire to make money. There have been many cases where victims shared how scammers duped them under the pretext of simple work from home jobs that offered high returns. These scams often involve simple tasks, but victims lose money instead of earning it. Despite many warnings, it seems that people are still falling prey to these fraudulent schemes. In another case of work from home scam, a woman from Gudamba area of Lucknow was defrauded of Rs 1.75 lakh after agreeing to a fake work from home opportunity.

The scam started on September 14 when the victim, Deepika Maurya, a resident of Phoolbagh Colony, received a call from an unknown number. According to a Times of India report, the caller offered her an attractive opportunity to work from home and claimed that she could earn money by liking and commenting on posts through the mobile app. The victim thought the offer was legitimate as work-from-home opportunities have increased over the years. And after getting influenced by the fraudsters, the victim agreed to join and started working.

Initially, she was asked to participate by liking and commenting on posts. As days passed, Maurya started seeing good returns. Encouraged by this, the scammers convinced him to “invest” in the company which they claimed would yield handsome profits. Without making the effort to withdraw her initial earnings, she was eager to increase her income and transferred Rs 1.75 lakh to the account given by the fraudsters.

However, when Maurya tried to withdraw the promised profits, the scammers refused and demanded additional deposits on the pretext of unlocking her earnings. Realizing that he has been cheated, Maurya immediately reports the matter to the police and cyber cell.

This case is a sobering reminder that despite numerous reports and official guidelines from authorities, people are still falling prey to such scams in hopes of making easy money. Although jobs are important, it is also important to be cautious when looking for opportunities. If you are searching for a job online, always research the company or individual offering the opportunity. This becomes more important when someone calls you suddenly and offers a good paying job.

Remember, real organizations have professional online websites and clear contact information. Also legitimate employers never require applicants to make investments or pay fees to start working. Most importantly, if a job offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Jobs that promise high returns for minimal effort are a common red flag.
