Iranian state media broadcast a video showing a Lego doll depicting US President Donald Trump being set on fire, as mourners at Ali Khamenei’s burial repeatedly called for Trump’s death and burned effigies of the US leader. The burning of the effigy was a symbolic funeral rites given to the American leader. The clip fits into the genre of what is sometimes called “Lego propaganda,” short AI-generated animations featuring Lego-like figures that push Islamic Republic narratives. A group called Explosive Media, which is widely suspected of having ties to the Iranian government, has produced a series of videos that have been viewed millions of times during the conflict. One clip shows Trump with a large yellow head and a burning back, reading “Victory! I’m a loser.” YouTube suspended Explosive Media’s account last week for “violent content”. Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the sanctions as a move to suppress “the truth” about the US-Israeli war on Iran. The video uses American popular culture to portray Trump as old, isolated and prone to childish tantrums. The genre marks a shift from traditional state propaganda to algorithmically-optimized viral content designed for social media. The publicity began when Khamenei was buried on Thursday in Mashhad, his birthplace and one of Iran’s holiest cities, following a six-day funeral ceremony attended by millions of mourners across Iran and Iraq. His burial prayer was led by 101-year-old fundamentalist cleric Hossein Nouri Hamdani. Throughout the ceremony, Khamenei’s son and successor Mojtaba Khamenei remained absent from public view.
