Actor Manikandan is continuously becoming a reliable actor in Tamil cinema. His previous two films, Good Night and Lover, proved to be a favorite of the crowd. In both films, he played the role of a trusted ‘next door person’ struggling with financial and emotional problems. Director Rajeshwar Kalisamy’s Kudmabasthan is another film in which Manikandan plays the role of a lower-middle class family.
Naveen (Manikandan) and Vanilla (Sanve Meghna) are married in the office of a registrar, and their families curse them for not getting their permission. After a small interval, Naveen and Vanilla live with their parents. Vanilla, who wants to become an IAS, is a calm mind, intelligent and pregnant wife who supports Naveen and blinds her eyes on her mother -in -law.
Naveen, a kind husband, lives a happy life. However, due to his rashness, he was dismissed from work, causing him to get trapped in the vortex of problems related to money. Although he borrows money from moneylenders, he is immersed in debt of Rs 3 lakh due to unhappy parents. To make the case worse, his brother -in -law Rajendran (Guru Somasundaram) does not leave any chance to degrade him. Naveen goes through his struggles and how he searches himself again is the story.
When you get out of the theater hall with a smile on your face, you feel satisfaction and peace. Director Rajeshwar Kalisamy’s Kudumbasthan is successful in doing this and brings very important laughter by bringing alive our everyday problems. Nowadays it is rare to see such harmless comedy that makes you think. And there is a lot of comedy in the Kudumbasthan which will make you laugh and make you think.

Comedy is its biggest property in Kudumbasthan. Whether it is Naveen to hide his unemployment or to give him one flop plans one after the other, many examples highlight the struggle of a working person, who is also the only earner of the family. His always demanding parents and pregnant wife preparing for IAS are his major problems. But, the way Naveen deal with it and his short -term happiness makes him more reliable before getting caught in any other problem.
It would be rare to call Manikandan’s performance excellent. When he takes revenge on his brother -in -law Rajendran, it has a great mix of childish act. An ideal lover and husband is when he loves his wife. There is also an impulsive, always cumbersome person who breaks under extreme pressure. This is another relevant role in Manikandan’s filmography. He is supporting him in his performance, excellent Guru Somsundaram and his bizarre acts. They keep the proceedings quite interesting.
Sanwe Meghna is beautiful to see as Vennila. He gave great performance. R Sundarrajan, Kudasanad Kanam and Nivethita Rajappan are perfect in their roles. The film also throws light on serious issues in the family. Whether it is to put a burden of all financial problems on a man or stay in an unhappy marriage, the film deal with them all. However, it is also a victim of conservative ideas. When the film takes a serious stance, it stumbles a little, but soon pulls you out of its spontaneous comedy.
Kudumbasthan is a heart touching and entertaining film with many moments of laughter.
