The controversy has attracted considerable attention, with many criticising the alleged insensitivity to the historical context.

Fans are slamming Adele for using this image during her concert. One fan wrote, “Hi, Adele. Today’s concert in Munich was perfect except for one thing. During the performance of “Rumour Has It”, the rising sun flag appeared on the screen. This flag symbolizes Japanese militarism and has the same meaning as the Nazi swastika (sic).”
