Kolkata honored Satyajit Ray with Crowdfunded Street Museum on his birth anniversary
Kolkata revealed a unique crowdfunded Street Museum to honor Satyajit Ray. This initiative is an important cultural tribute to the famous filmmaker on his 104th birth anniversary.

Man and address do not require any introduction. On the 104th birth anniversary of Satyajit Ray, fans of the legendary filmmaker received a special gift – a unique, civic -unseen crowdeded Initiative unveiled on the Bishop Lefroy Road on 2 May. This urban regeneration project is the first of its kind in Kolkata, designed to celebrate Ray’s talent, where he lived once.
The initiative has been brought into life through joint efforts of Sandeep Ray (son of Satyajit Ray), Ward 70 Municipal Councilor Ashim Basu, Kolkata Restorers and Tricesis Communications, which came together to implement vision on all 1/1 bishop Lefroy Road.
The concept launched in April was born with a simple feeling: Kolkata did not adequately celebrate Satyajit Ray’s life. Kolkata Restorers proposed to complete a three-way initiative before Ray’s birth anniversary: illuminating the fountains of your residence with permanent LED lighting, launching one-one-one type of street museum along the wall of the boundary of the residence, and painting the power boxes on the same road with the artwork inspired by Satizijit.
Mudar Patheri, who led the urban regeneration initiative, said, “It was launched on 2 May for free and anytime publicly. It was a long forward project, which was coming more than three decades after the master’s demise and therefore not there was not a day soon.”
The Street Museum selects many artifacts, handwritten music score notations of Ray, iconic logo, icing and sketches, magazines and film posters, selecting pictures taken by them, selecting dialogues from their films, and they have been paid over years.
Sandeep Ray resonated the feeling that the tribute was a long time. “I have seen it, graphitis. They are beautiful. It becomes difficult to choose one. I think it was long and I am really happy to see it on their birthday.”
