He described the experience as “surreal” and thanked them for the role they played in shaping the journey of his latest film. Karuppu. The filmmaker’s post comes weeks after he revealed that Vijay was originally considered for the lead role Karuppu. According to Balaji, the project was initially developed with Vijay in mind and was discussed before the actor decided to move away from cinema and focus entirely on politics.

Vijay was the first choice for Karuppu

talking to Hollywood Reporter India Earlier, Balaji had recalled narrating the script to Vijay during several meetings. He said that the film was conceived as a possible final acting project for the star before his political transition. However, Vijay ultimately decided not to go ahead with the film citing reasons which Balaji said he respected and understood.

Balaji revealed that Vijay was also evaluating other projects at the time and later informed him of his decision after considering various factors. Despite not being involved in the film, Vijay’s feedback proved valuable during the script development process.

The director said that Vijay’s questions and comments helped him refine the story, adding that the actor’s willingness to listen to the story opened doors for the project. Balaji also thanked Vijay for his contribution to the creative journey in the opening credits of the film. “That’s how it eventually became Suriya’s film. Despite him not doing the film, the fact that he listened to the subject gave me the opportunity to make this film. So I thanked him in the opening credits. After listening to my story, he asked me the right questions and those questions made my script better,” he said.

After Vijay handed over the project, production house Dream Warrior Pictures suggested that Balaji narrate the story to Suriya. The script eventually found its lead actor in the form of Suriya, becoming the titular fantasy-action drama.

It appears that the decision has paid off. KaruppuThe film, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles, has emerged as a major commercial success, crossing the Rs 300 crore mark at the worldwide box office. The film tells the story of Vettai Karuppu, a guardian deity who takes the form of a lawyer to fight against corruption and injustice. Apart from Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, the film also stars RJ Balaji, Indrans, Anagha Maya Ravi and Natti Subramaniam.

Vijay was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu last month. His last film as an actor, Jan NayganNot released yet due to certification issues.
