Ranveer Singh has agreed to file a revised apology affidavit in this regard before the Karnataka High Court Kantara Mimicry controversy arising from International Film Festival of India 2025. The actor’s decision comes after the complainant objected to his earlier apology, saying it did not reflect genuine remorse.

During the hearing, Singh’s lawyer informed the court that a fresh affidavit would be submitted after consulting the complainant. Objections were particularly raised to the tone of the initial apology, with claims that it lacked sincerity. The court was told that the actor is now willing to reconsider and modify the contents of his apology in an effort to resolve the matter.

The case pertains to an incident at IFFI 2025 in Goa, where Singh faced criticism for mimicking a crucial scene. Kantara: Chapter 1. The performance was particularly sensitive as the film’s lead actor and director Rishabh Shetty was present in the audience.

Addressing Shetty on stage, Singh had said, “I saw Kantara Chapter 1 In theatres, and Rishabh, it was an excellent performance, especially when the female ghost (Chamundi Daiva) enters your body – that shot was amazing.”

Although Shetty was seen laughing at the time, the moment sparked criticism online, with many users calling the act insensitive. Many objected to Singh’s reference to the deities considered sacred forest deities as “ghosts”, calling it a misinterpretation of cultural beliefs. The controversy escalated after additional clips surfaced which showed Shetty warning Singh against imitating him during the programme.

Following the backlash, Singh had issued a public apology. However, the case reached the Karnataka High Court after a complainant challenged the sincerity of the apology, leading to the latest development.

Further action is expected after the filing of the amended affidavit.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
