Reports suggest that actor Kamal Haasan received a record fee for his role in director Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD. His friend and actor Yugi Sethu discussed his salary in a recent interview.

Actor Kamal Haasan was reportedly the highest-grossing actor in director Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi film Kalki 2898 ADLeft behind other top-billed stars in terms of remuneration. Known for its impressive scale and ensemble cast including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone, the film attracted attention not only for its visuals but also for the salaries of its star actors.
There has been a buzz in the industry after filmmaker and actor Yugi Sethu claimed that Haasan had taken the biggest pay check for his brief but important role in the film. According to Sethu, Haasan’s salary was higher than any other actor associated with the big budget production.

Addressing the matter in an interview with indiaglitzYugi Setu said, “Kamal sir has such a stature. They are being paid Rs 150 crore for 20 days of call sheet. Kalki 2898 AD. I told him on his birthday that he is the highest paid actor in India and he gets $1 million per day,” Haasan said, highlighting the extent of his earnings for his participation.
Yugi Sethu has been associated with Haasan for almost two decades, having worked together in films and maintaining a professional friendship.
Haasan has recently had a resurgence in box-office popularity, especially after the success of his 2022 film VikramThis has reportedly contributed to its increased market value and ability to command higher fees for new projects in the industry.
During his conversation with the film’s producer C Aswani Dutt, Sethu shared an anecdote, correcting his earlier comment about Haasan’s shooting schedule for the film. He recalled when after Haasan learned the shot for 10 days, not 20, he was told, “Sorry, I’m correcting myself, it’s $2 million per day.”
In Kalki 2898 ADHaasan appears in a brief role as Supreme Yaskin, a powerful figure in the dystopian narrative. Despite his limited screen time in the first installment, the character is given an important place within the film’s larger story.
Recently Kamal Haasan has started shooting for its sequel. Kalki 2898 ADWith Amitabh Bachchan. The second installment will not feature Deepika Padukone as she was dropped from the project citing creative differences.
