Kalyani Priyadarshan Interview
1. Loca: Chapter 1 – Chandra is considered as 1 female superhero character in Indian cinema. What is it to be a part of pop culture that will be remembered for a long time?
Ans. is that true? As I heard, there were some other characters in Indian cinema who were the first female superheroes. I am not sure, but for clear reasons, it seems real. This is not what we have ever thought of will be with the film.
When I first signed, I really wanted to be a part of a good film, really a good story. When the audience saw it, the film took its own life, and it really looked real. It is not really drowned in any of us. It has been two weeks of release, but … I don’t know what to say. I am still speechless.
2. In Loca, you make a gothic look with your character, which is quite rare in Malayalam cinema. What was the journey to infection in the moon?
Ans. From a visual point of view, she has the reason why she is doing this. We understand through the character that Chandra is a person who has many shades, many masks and many disguise. In fact, we do not even know if it is the real form of the moon.
Whatever Chandra shows is the real lunar. It was interesting to analyze the role from such a point of view. Emotionally, we know that he is a very numb person who has done a lot in life. He has seen his loved ones passing. Her maturity, the language of the body, the way she speaks is very different, which I am as a person.
This was the biggest challenge for me because I had to understand the weight he does. This is the place where Dominic and Nimish came; Both of them have been living with the character for so long. They knew everything about him; They knew how she walks, eats … everything.
This is one of the moments where I have completely surrendered to their vision; If not for them, I would have been lost.
3. Another major aspect of the character was how physically it was demanding. The pieces of the action set were all high-octane. What happened in training for such a role?
Ans. Obviously, this is a character that has been fighting for years and years. Perhaps for me, who just took action to explain that I have been doing it for years, it is not easy. We had to train on many things, and at the same time, we had to go very intensely.
We worked on a lot of things, until Shakti training, rope training, harness training, maya Thai and boxing. We had to work on a variety of comparison over a period of several months.
Yanik Ben is the person who handled the action choreography, and his first advice was that if you are punching someone for the first time, they would easily know it. An audience will easily understand whether the person was an expert in landing panches.
Therefore, that body language has become almost another nature, so we have trained a lot. Obviously, there is also the magic of cinema. This is a collaborative effort, and I had a very strong technical team. I just had to do so that they were working very hard, and the rest they would take care of, especially when we have to make a superhero film.
4. Loca’s success is echoing in industries in Indian cinema. How does it feel to be at the center of all this?
Ans. As I said earlier, everything has not drowned yet. I am happy that such a film is being accepted by everyone. It goes to show that the audience is able to show more love, the more we could imagine.
Now, this film was an experiment, and it was an experiment that everyone liked. I am really grateful to someone else, but the audience. I do not believe that I am at the center of it, but this way is more collective win.
If I had to say who is at its center, I would probably say that it was all of us. As a team, we have collectively put our efforts in it, and every department is being appreciated for this.
5. So far, we all know what the film is about and your character is inspired by Kaliankatu blue, a famous Yakshi from the folklore of Kerala. Was there any challenge in adopting such a specific Toned character?
Ans. I don’t know that I can talk openly about the spiler, but to customize something like this, I think it is the most interesting aspect of the character.
The character had so much weight, and we were all very excited to remagin the blue. I think it’s beautiful, because what if we had the decision about that character was wrong? How many times we have made our opinion about a person because we have told about the stories told about them, but when we meet them, we feel that the opinion is completely wrong.
This is why makes the reunion of blue so beautiful. This is why I encouraged me to play. As we prepared it completely, we did not go into the old ways in which it was painted. For me, it was a completely fresh character.
6. With mid-credit and post-cried scenes, we saw the character Charlie like Tavino Thomas’s Chaithan and Dicw’s Ninja. Can we expect Chandra that you will get a glimpse of all of them and even Mothon?
Ans. This is to make sure … I am asked not to divide those details. However, the entire structure for the next films is fully laid. I know my arc, and this is a very interesting arc, but I can’t speak about it.
7. Loca clashed with Mohanlal’s Hridaypurvam on a large -scale box office, and was on the top, Loca is at the top. How do you see this box office clash?
Ans. I never found that cinema should be measured as the winner or losers. I think it is just part of culture, such as in school or college, it is about all academics, clashes, winners and loser people.
In art … in cinema, it is not about the winners or loser. Both films are incredibly well doing, and it is a will for the love that gives the audience. I am just excited for both of us, and Lal Sir (Mohanlal) is truly one of my favorite humans who are for all time … forget actors, he is one of my favorite humans.
To be able to please each other from different screen, this is just an exciting process for me.
