Alia didn’t know who Kishore Kumar was: Ranbir Kapoor on understanding his roots
Actor Ranbir Kapoor talked about being aware of iconic film personalities during a session at IFFI Goa. He also underlined the importance of knowing ‘one’s roots’ in life. The actor took the example of his wife and actor Alia Bhatt.
Actor Ranbir Kapoor opened up on the importance of understanding one’s background during his appearance at the 50th International Indian Film Festival in Goa. The 42-year-old announced a special film festival dedicated to his grandfather and filmmaker Raj Kapoor and underlined the importance of getting to know such iconic film personalities. He mentioned his wife and actor Alia Bhatt, who once did not even know legendary musician Kishore Kumar.
RK, as he is popularly called, shared that this film festival will help people know his grandfather’s work better, and understand where he was coming from. The actor took the example of his wife to elaborate his point.
He said, “We are going to do a film festival from December 13 to 15. We are going to release his (Raj Kapoor’s) films all over India. So, I really hope that you guys will see his work because there are a lot of To people who haven’t seen his work, I remember when I met Alia for the first time, she asked me, ‘Who is Kishore Kumar?’ It’s just the circle of life. People are forgotten, and then a new artist comes along.”
Ranbir said, “I think it’s very important that we remember our roots. Not just Mr. Raj Kapoor, there are many filmmakers and artistes who we should continue to celebrate. And I’m really passionate about doing that.” Grateful to IFFI.”
The popular Bollywood actor shared that the special film festival has been organized in collaboration with NFDC, NFAI, Film Heritage Foundation of India and his uncle Kunal Kapoor – all of whom have worked together in restoring Raj Kapoor’s films.
Meanwhile, Ranbir is busy working on his next film Love and War with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He has worked together with Alia and Vicky Kaushal for this. He has a stellar lineup of films ahead, including titles like Animal Park and Nitish Tiwari’s Ramayan, in which he plays Lord Ram. There is also speculation about him playing the lead role in YRF’s Dhoom 4 and starting the shooting of Brahmastra 2 soon.
