Actress Kalki Koechlin was married to popular Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. After spending almost two years together, the couple announced their separation in 2013. Then in 2015, they filed for divorce. By that time Kalki had worked in many films. But despite being a popular celebrity, the actress faced problems in renting a house in Mumbai as a single woman.
During a conversation with Afterhours with All About Eve’s YouTube channel, Kalki Koechlin talked about the period after her divorce from Anurag Kashyap. Going back in time, she remembered that when she and Anurag got divorced, her two hit films, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, had already released.
Even though she was a well-known face and a celebrity in the industry at that time, she struggled to get a house on rent in Mumbai. The Dave.D actress said that as a single woman no one would give her a house on rent in Bombay. At that moment, she was like ‘I’m famous.’ You want to take selfies with me, but you don’t want to give me a house.
A few months ago, Anurag Kashyap had visited a house in Pinkvilla and revealed that the house where he currently lives was actually found by his ex-wife Kalki. He specifically told us, “This was the house we came to live in. When I got married, Kalki got this house. Director Shashank Ghosh used to be the owner of this house. So, we bought it from him. Shashanka Ghosh hosted a lot of people in this house.
The director of Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat further added, “When I came to Mumbai, I really wanted to get into films somehow. I could do anything for the house. When in reality Kalki got this house. And then I came here.”
While Kalki faced problems in renting a house in the city of dreams, Anurag said that he prefers to live on rent as it gives him the flexibility to go anywhere. Meanwhile, on the work front, Kalki was last seen in Ananya Panday’s Kho Gaye Hum Kahaan.
