K Bhagyaraj’s funeral: CM Vijay and Rajinikanth arrive to honor the filmmaker
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and superstar Rajinikanth arrived to pay their last respects to veteran filmmaker K Bhagyaraj. The legendary director, who passed away at the age of 73, is being given a state honor for his immense contribution to Tamil cinema.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and superstar Rajinikanth arrived to pay their last respects to veteran filmmaker, actor and screenwriter K Bhagyaraj, who died of a heart attack in Chennai on Saturday. The duo were seen expressing their condolences to Bhagyaraj’s family as members of the film fraternity, political leaders and fans gathered to bid farewell to one of the most influential creative voices of Tamil cinema.
In a video from the venue, Chief Minister Vijay was seen offering floral tributes to Bhagyaraj before offering condolences to the filmmaker’s wife, actor Purnima Bhagyaraj, and his son, actor Shantanu Bhagyaraj.

Rajinikanth also paid tribute to the late filmmaker and met the bereaved family.

Bhagyaraj died at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy that shaped Tamil cinema through his extraordinary storytelling, screenwriting and middle-class family dramas. The Tamil Nadu government has announced state honors for the last journey of the veteran filmmaker in recognition of his immense contribution to the film industry.
Born as Krishnaswami Bhagyaraj in Erode district of Tamil Nadu, he began his career as an assistant to legendary filmmaker Bharathiraja before emerging as one of the most renowned writer-directors of Tamil cinema.
During his career, he directed more than 25 films and acted in more than 75 films. He was widely considered one of the industry’s finest screenwriters with classics such as Mundanai Mudichu, Andha 7 Drama and Darling, Darling, Darling Due to which he gained a dedicated fan following.
Bhagyaraj is survived by his wife, former actor Purnima Bhagyaraj, and his children, actor Shantanu Bhagyaraj and daughter Saranya Bhagyaraj. His last rites are being performed with state honors at the Besant Nagar cremation ground in Chennai.
