Junaid Khan talks about stay order on Maharaj: Was confident that the film would release
Actor Junaid Khan discusses the challenges faced by his debut film Maharaj, which faced a stay order from the Gujarat High Court due to claims of hurting religious sentiments.
Aamir Khan’s son actor Junaid Khan reflected on the time when the Gujarat High Court imposed a stay order on his debut film Maharaj. The actor spoke with the film’s director Sidharth P Malhotra in a session titled ‘From Stories to Cinema’ at Sahitya Aaj Tak 2024. For those unaware, Netflix’s Maharaja was in trouble when a Hindu group appealed to the court to ban the release of the film for ‘hurting religious sentiments’.
Junaid Khan believed that despite the film’s tumultuous opening,He was confident that it would eventually be released. “When the Gujarat High Court stay order came, we were very worried. But we knew that Sidharth (P Malhotra) sir had made the film very carefully and with a lot of respect. I had full faith that it would release one day ” ” the actor said.
Maharaj director Siddharth said, “The journey of the film was very difficult. The film is based on a book which has been in the market for 13 years. The Supreme Court decision of the film can be downloaded and read. It is also taught in six universities. Is.” In fact, a play named Maharaj was also made but no one said anything.
He further said, “My wife is a Vaishnav, many people working in the film are from the Vaishnav community. When a poster of this film came out, it was banned. We were watching the court case live for five days. it should have.” Will be launched on (June) 13th. After one and a half weeks, this film came on Netflix, as makers we did not even know that the film had been released.
Siddharth thanked the Gujarat High Court and said that the film has been made carefully and it is not against any religion. He said, “I would like to thank the Gujarat High Court that they watched the film and said that it is not against any religion. The film is fine, we already knew this. I would also like to thank Netflix for releasing the film. After the release, they again uploaded the trailer and then the songs and it became number one.”
Maharaj was initially scheduled to premiere on June 14 on Netflix. After the stay order was approved, the film was finally released on 21 June.
