An explosion damaged a Jewish school in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Saturday, Sky News reported, citing Dutch media.Amsterdam Mayor Famke Halsema said she believed the overnight explosion was a targeted attack against the Jewish community.Police and fire services responded immediately to the incident, and damage to the school was reported to be limited. It is not yet clear whether there have been any casualties or not.The attack comes as the Middle East remains in crisis, with heavy bombing and military action between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran-Hezbollah on the other, as well as frequent counter-attacks.
The incident occurred a day after an explosion caused a small fire at the entrance of a synagogue in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam early Friday. Police said the case is being treated as arson.Officials said no one was injured in the attack on the synagogue and the fire that followed the blast was quickly brought under control.Police later said four teenagers were detained in a car near another synagogue in Rotterdam.A Jewish organization in the Netherlands said in a message on Twitter that an Islamist group had posted a video of the Rotterdam blast online and claimed responsibility for the incident. The organization said the same group had earlier claimed responsibility for a synagogue attack in the Belgian city of Liège earlier in the week.
