Jewelery worth €4 million likely stolen from French museum, investigation ongoing

STRASBOURG: Jewelery worth millions of euros was stolen in a theft at the museum of French luxury glass maker Lalique on Sunday, the company and an investigation source said.A source close to the investigation said the thief entered the museum in Wingen-sur-Moder in north-eastern France at around 5.30am local time and headed straight towards the jewelery room. “About twenty pieces of jewelery were stolen. The damage is being assessed, but it could be several million euros, possibly closer to four million,” the source said. The museum said it would remain closed for several days.“The alarm was raised, but by the time the security company had completed its investigation, a cleaning lady was the first to arrive at the scene and called the police,” the source said. The museum, dedicated to the Art Nouveau and Art Deco jeweler and glass maker René Lalique, was opened in 2011. AFP
